This intense experience combines the rush
of free fall with huge rebounds provided by elastic bungee cords.
The cords slow the jumper gradually. The fall is actually quite
comfortable.
Special harnesses are used which allow the
participant to jump in a number of ways. Swan dive, back dives,
and flips are some of the more popular jumps, and on the Río
Dulce Bridge, these may be combined with a dip into the water.
Safety: Between 3 -6 bungee
cords are used, depending on the weight of the jumper. These cords
have a tensile strength of 1,500 lbs. per cord. The jumper is
attached to the cords using four locking steel carabineers attached
both to a waist and a chest harness. All equipment is inspected
frequently and the cords are replaces after a specific number
of jumps. In over 3,000 jumps there has™ been any accident.
