Surfing was not a part of the ancient Maya culture! But leave it
to us and we´ll find waves that even the locals don´t
know about! In recent years travelers have returned to re-discover
the awe-inspiring ancient monuments of Tikal and the colorful woven
and crafts of the village markets.
While some locals have enjoyed body boarding,
only recently has a small surfing population begun to surface.
Surfing was not considered a worthwhile pursuit in Guatemala,
since locals tend to prefer the chose proximity of the beach breaks,
the area´s many points breaks and jetties go unchallenged.
Jetty, construction near San José created a point break
which drew our attention, so we set to work putting together some
great new surf trips! for the adventurous surfers looking to explore
the miles of coastline, the promise of hidden waves is real, forget
